Overview

Located on the foothills of the Bhutanese Valleys, Dooars is the gateway to the Kingdom but is so beautiful that tourists stay back here for a few days and extend it later. The name Dooars derives from the word ‘Duar’ as it is the door to Bhutan and North East India. The Dooars valley is mottled by mighty rivers like Torsa, Jaldhaka, Teesta, Murti, Sankosh and Dyna. This beautiful region is quite blessed with dense forest and exotic wildlife. In addition to this exploring, its rich flora and fauna would have a memorable time for nature lovers. It’s a wilderness capital you just cannot afford to miss.

Places to visit in Dooars

Gorumara National Park

Located at a distance of 12 km from Retreat Dooars on the banks of river Murti, Gorumara National Park is a home to the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros, leopards, elephants and barking sambar deer's and it also serves shelter to numerous transient birds. The other amphibians and reptiles like the king cobra and Indian python give company to the birds.

Chapramari Wildlife Park

Located about 12 km distance away from Retreat Dooars, Chapramari is home to all sorts of mammals, reptiles and amphibians. It is quite popular for its gour and elephant population. Trees in the thick forest hide some of the most sought-after birds and a chance encounter with the scarlet minilet, green magpie, hill mayna, and Indian treepie is always a possibility.

Neora Valley National Park

Covering over an area of 88 sq. km, Neora National Park is located in the Eastern Himalayas at a distance of about 84 km away from retreat Dooars. The beautiful valley is home to endangered Wild animals like red panda, Himalayan black bear and wild dog as well as the park is also a known for a picnic spot.

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary

Spread over 216 sq. km, Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is a home to endangered One-horned Indian Rhino. The sanctuary is a montage of woods, swamps and grasslands and is alongside by the rivers Hollong, Torsa, Malangi, Chirakhawa and Bhaluka. You can view the wildlife from atop of the watchtower. A volume of elephant safaris is also available as well as you can also go on a jeep safari.

Chilapata Forest

Located t distance of 20km away from Alipurduar, Chilapata forest is the lesser-known wildlife abodes in the region, the forest forms an elephant aisle between Jaldapara and Buxa Tiger Reserve. The fort of the Nal Kings is a major attraction here and the fort was built in the 5th century during the Gupta period.
